White Island volcano erupted today which has resulted in at least 5 casualties with those figures unfortunately expected to rise. My thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy. As someone who lived in the Bay of Plenty off of which White Island is located it makes it all the more real and tragic. White Island is New Zealand’s most active cone volcano and has been built up by continuous volcanic activity over the past 150,000 years.

I lived in New Zealand for a year in 2016. I headed over solo knowing no one there apart from a couple of kiwis I met travelling over the years. I booked accomodation for just over a week and from then i had no plans or direction. I googled sunniest spots in New Zealand and came across a beachside city called Tauranga and off I headed! That was a totally amazing experience! Saying I absolutely loved it is an understatement!!! Ive probably both intrigued and bored friends and family to death talking about New Zealand since returning home.
